  4. GREENBUILD DENVER: Products & Materials Well folks, we’ve got some good news and some bad news; The good news is that you’re currently reading one of the best weblogs for keeping up to date with all the latest and greatest materials in the green building world. The bad news is, we’ve already shown you most of the cool new materials gracing the Exhibit Hall floor - ther’re all covered already in our NEW MATERIALS section. Unfortunately, we haven’t stumbled upon any new groundbreaking products here in Denver. But for those of you who couldn’t venture to the Mile High City, we’ll show you some of our favorites, and remind you of the broad range of exciting resources at your fingertips. Alkemi: aluminum shavings in colored resin - we covered this at the first of the year for its recycled content. We’ve mentioned American Clay several times (although we’ve never really done a full post on the product.) This stuff is gorgeous! Yes, that is a landscape painting in the background using their product on the demonstration wall. One of the many reclaimed timber options at the convention, EcoTimber had an amazingly diverse sample collection - - beautiful, but not for shallow pockets. We raved about Expanko cork products back in January. Although the products we covered were the natural looking flooring, the rubbery feeling and brightly colored tiles were suprisingly nice as well. Nicki felt the need to try her own indentation test. Paperstone was sharing a booth with Kirei. We’ve discussed both Plyboo, and cool products constructed of Plyboo. If you’re interested in the product, check out the comments section of the original post for some explanation on why the stuff is so darned expensive. Terra Mai’s reclaimed tropical hardwoods. After several rounds on the exhibit floor, we were a little disappointed in the lack of new products and materials, however the massive collection of businesses catering to the emerging sustainable market was inspirational in itself. 5. Studio 804 Wins Home Of The Year - Fri, 17 Nov 2006 09:15 Since the last time we touted Studio 804’s design/build prefab projects, the University of Kansas studio group has completed construction and landed the prestigious Home Of The Year Award, given annually by Architecture magazine. Their prefab Modular 3 home, which was conceptualized, designed, and built all within a twenty-week long semester, earned the award with its modular framework, environmentally-friendly materials, and gorgeously modern aesthetic. Environmental sustainability was a big part of the design: only eco-friendly materials were chosen (water-based sealants, bamboo flooring,) and energy efficiency was maximized through the use of recycled cellulose insulation and efficient HVAC units. This stunning finished house is a great example of how effective prefab construction can be when it is well designed. Although we have seen many great ideas for prefab projects, it is such a small proportion that makes it off the drawing boards and into construction, much less into mass production. Drawing on the experience of previous projects, Studio 804 was able to design and construct a home employing off-site, modular construction techniques as well as environmentally friendly materials, in a mere 20 weeks. For that alone, they are totally deserving of the Home of the Year award. Congrats to Studio 804!… We hope more architecture schools will follow in your footsteps. Ler artigo...

    Olá

    Bem vindo Bill (conta)!
  9. QUIET REVOLUTION WIND TURBINE - Wed, 15 Nov 2006 Quiet Revolution Ltd has revolutionized the windmill with their new QuietRevolution wind turbine, the QR5. Not only is it one of the most visually appealing wind turbines available on the market, its small scale allows it to fit seamlessly into an urban environment, providing a renewable energy resource in places where space constraints previously made it impossible to hook up green power systems. 12. LEAF FURNITURE by Tejo Remy - Tue, 14 Nov 2006 09:02:32 +0000 There’s something so identifiable and charming about Dutch Design. Tejo Remy, one of the first and most influential members of the Dutch Design group Droog, has recently split from the collective to launch a project-based firm called RemyVeenhuizen with cohort Rene Veenhuizen. Their Leaf Project, whose cascading waterfall of leaves create a fluid series of shelves, benches, and wall coverings, is a great example of witty, innovative, and engaging design. We love the flora motif made structural and functional. + RemyVeenhuizen Ler artigo...

  15. RETAIL PREFAB: Puma’s Store-In-A-Box - Mon, 13 Nov 2006 09:46:57 +0000 In Manhattan shops come and go all the time. Still, it was with surprise that New Yorkers watched the swift transformation of a retail space in Union Square from wine store to Puma concept store almost overnight. Thanks to the innovative “Store-In-A-Box” concept - using mobile shipping containers to create retail spaces - Puma was able to set up this store in less than a week. Puma’s new prefab retail system is a marvel of efficiency that anyone who has ever put together a retails store can appreciate. Ler artigo...
