No meio do deserto, uma encosta com uma ligeira pendente recebe dois corpos que se envolvem em aço corten.

A dureza da envolvente desértica e do revestimento contrastam com a delicadeza e o detalhe dos interiores.

Os grandes vãos envidraçados enquadram momentos específicos da paisagem, permitindo que as trovoadas e as montanhas distantes se tornem pinturas mutáveis.

“It’s really about taking these enormous panorama views and kind of reframing them and revealing them slowly for different parts of the experience.”

Description

The gravel path to the house crunches beneath your feet. Through the garden of barrel cactuses that appear to be standing guard, one descends into a courtyard by way of a stair wedged between the two retaining walls.

From here, an oasis unfolds: cool dark shaded areas, the sound of water trickling, humming birds, the smell of sage and flowers, reflections.

Planting arrangements and detailing assert a refined man-made character.

The courtyard provides relief from the overwhelmingly expansive setting while two buildings frame a cropped view of TumacacaoriPark – the client's favourite. A negative edge pool located at the west end of the courtyard extends the experience to this view.

The house's weathered steel forms, like some rusted artefacts from a cowboy camp, are oriented to frame prime views. The coarseness of the rough steel exterior contrasts with the refinement of the interior palette of white plaster, stainless steel, maple, and translucent glass. Protruding stell box windows forms penetrate the building in apparently random but carefully selected locations to frame specific views of lightning storms and distant mountain ranges.

No Arizona uma casinha em aço corten não sei se é uma boa ideia para um Verão bem passado, embora possa acontecer como em algumas casas, da mesma zona dos EUA, desenhadas por arquitectos bem conhecidos e que se destinam a serem ocupadas em epocas especificas do ano.

Acho interessante a forma e principalmente pelo facto da habitação não se abrir totalmente para a paisagem. Tudo que é rotina torna-se pouco desejado, prestamos menor atenção e paramos menos para observar e viver os lugares. Não sou grande entendedor em construção, nem conheço o comportamento térmico do material, mas certamente o aço funcionará como fachada ventilada, aqui, e depois depende também da sua espessura.
Resulta uma dicotomia, paisagem edificada muito pela materialização em corten.
