hi everyone,

sorry to post this in english, but i have only a veeery limited knowledge of portuguese (not much more than 'uma cerveja por favor' and 'onde sao es toiletas' :) ). but i thought that i would reach more people this way.

i am a young architect working for Crepain Binst Architecture nv in antwerp, belgium. we are an architecture studio of about 70 people with a wide range of projects, from single family houses over offices to large scale housing projects. for some samples of our work: www.crepainbinst.be.

every year we make an architecture trip to study and visit recent projects. recent trips include finland in 2005 (alvar aalto) and the venice biennale in 2006. these trips usually take 4 to 5 days in which we try to see some remarkable projects. this year our favoured destination is portugal.

we are currently looking for projects to visit. of course the 'classics' are already on our list (souto, siza, casa da musica, oriente station,...) but we are trying to find some more specific projects. we really like aires mateus for example, but i am sure that there are lots of other offices that we do not know about but who have great works too.

so i would like to ask everyone interested to post architects/projects/cities/villages that you think are worth seeing. we would focus on lisbon and the environs, possibly extending the trip to lisbon.

anyway thanks for your responses in advance!

bye

hey edwin!! you're from belgium, i lived in belgium last year, but it was in brussels, i was doing erasmus, but i don't know a lot of flemish, just "ik will een hoegaarden" ;) you know what i mean!! well right know i don't have enough information to show you because i«m on holidays, but be sure to visit in our forum at the section "arquitectura nacional" you'll find a lot of projects and if you're interested people can tell you where it is. Also, be sure to check some books about siza, souto moura, távora, byrne, aires mateus, ... There are architecture guides for Oporto and Lisbon that you can find on libraries, but i believe you'll find them in portugal only... well, there's really a lot of great architecture to see in portugal and also in other cities rather than Oporto and Lisbon. from north to south i suggest you to visit: Viana do Castelo, Oporto, Aveiro, Coimbra, Lisbon, Évora, ... These cities are also great to visit not only for the architecture but for their image and spaces. I'm from Oporto so i suggest you to visit this great city and see all the great subway stations we have and all the modernist and contemporary architecture we have :)

Welcome Edwin. Here is the forum that asimplemind referrer to:

There is so much places you can visit that is hard to create a list, but we will try to do a sample list for you, if you coming to visit Lisbon make sure you have tickets for "Trienal de Arquitectura", a new event about architecture that will reunite famous architects like Zaha Hadid, the event site:
