Capsized for Google Earth

Recognizing an object on Google Earth is not always easy. The view from the sky obscures building facades and figures of sculptures.

The earth is mostly not photographed at a strict 90 degrees angle, providing that high objects – skyscrapers and towers – have still a quite visible ‘façade’ on Google Earth. Lower objects however suffer from the fact that the representation of building still happens mainly in the vertical façade.
At times you wished some objects were flipped on their side, so they would be recognizable from the sky.

The Russians did it in Murmansk, although not on purpose. Some abandoned navy ships have been capsized, so the best angle to look at them is suddenly from the air. What if more objects were flipped over for Google Earth, not only ships, but also sculptures, and even some buildings?

The exact opposite of this showing off against the sky are the adjacent underground submarine bunkers that have been carved out in the rocks, only recognizable by roads that suddenly ‘end’.
