Dubai has recently faced the music over not having enough design flair in its architecture. It’s always a challenge to come up with innovative new designs for buildings as every project struggles to hit the right note with would-be buyers and investors alike. The competition is fierce. But this week a whole new genre of building waltzed into Dubai, that will surely have the critics checking their dance cards. Dancing Towers, a gravity-defying collection of three buildings is set to spring up in Business Bay. The three towers are ‘choreographed’, to reflect fluid movement, according to Iraqi-born architect, Zaha Hadid. The funky structures were certainly a hot topic in New York at their launch at a retrospective exhibition of the UK-based architect. Hadid won an international competition, beating three other architects, to design the towers, which will be a focus point at the Business Bay development in Dubai. Unusually designed, the towers will be creating a splash in the middle of Business Bay on the Sheikh Zayed Road. The three towers in the complex are based on a common podium as part of the unique design. They will be joined two-by- two, with the offices at the base and the hotel and residences at the top. Hadid, was the first woman to receive the distinguished Pritzker Architecture Prize in 2004. She is known for complex and often impractical concepts but her buildings now grace landmark projects in Europe, North America and Asia. Business Bay, which is being developed by Dubai properties, will take up 80 million square feet located along the extension of the Dubai Creek, which will join up with Sheikh Zayed Road. “The towers incorporate avant-garde definitions of functionality and form that will not only create a distinctive landmark, but also symbolise a new phase in Dubai’s architectural standards,” said Hashim Al Dabal, CEO of Dubai Properties. As well as challenging the traditional skyline the Dancing towers project will challenge the conventional way of life in Dubai, he said. There is no date yet for the towers’ completion. Comentem aqui a noticio e lá a realidade do país...
