The building seeked a sophisticated integration of multi-media, architecture, arts, landscape, technology, communication and ecology. The form of SIT presents a layered glazed environmental screen facade to Cleveland Street, forming a buffer between the building and traffic-noise and associated pollution. The screen provides acoustic attenuation to allow appropriate indoor workplace conditions, whilst presenting a contemporary image of transparency and interaction. SIT is configured as two wings surrounding a central atrium and interconnecting stair. Vertical transport links are located within the entry foyer, easing connections to upper levels and interconnection of the main public facilities. Each level of the building is provided with a “bridge” linking the eastern and western sections of the development across the axis of engineering. Social-hubs are located within this naturally ventilated support zone. The lower level facilities have been configured around generous wintergarden and exhibition spaces to foster interaction within the School, and to embrace the wider community.Fonte: World Architecture News Quote
