Foster unveils design for Western Europe's tallest towers

Foster + Partners reveals plans for Western Europe’s tallest mixed-use towers - to be built in the heart of Paris

Revealed at MIPIM in Cannes, the two 324m towers form part of a new mixed-use community development called Hermitage Plaza located in the heart of Paris.

Construction on site is due to start in 2010 and finish by 2014. The towers will accommodate a luxury hotel, panoramic spa, apartments, offices, serviced apartments and shops.

The project will be carried out in collaboration with EPAD, the City of Courbevoie, Atelier de Paysage Urbain and Department de Hauts-de-Seine. According to Foster + Partners, the project is intended to ‘gentrify’ the area east of La Défense by ‘creating a sustainable, high-density community’ on the banks of the River Seine.

Norman Foster said: ‘Hermitage Plaza will create a 24-hour community that will regenerate the riverfront and inject new life into a predominantly commercial part of the city. A light catching addition to the Paris skyline, the development will also provide a public piazza that leads down to the river’s edge to create a new destination for the city.’
