Cinemarchitecture will bring together in April 2008 at the Faculty of Architecture of Oporto University students, scholars, architects and filmmakers with the aim to reflect on the connections, intersections and contaminations between architecture and cinema.

Cinemarchitecture is a partnership between Faculty of Architecture of Oporto University, Department of Architecture of Cambridge University, School of Architecture of Liverpool University and the Faculty of Architecture of Estonian Academy of Arts.

Cinemarchitecture will start with an International Seminar on the 7th and 8th of April open to everyone interested on the study of relations between architecture and film.

Until the 18th of April 40 students from the partner schools will take part in a two week residential intensive program workshop on the theme of architecture and film based at the Álvaro Siza designed Architecture School in Oporto. At least two staff from each school will also be able to take part. If the first event is successful Cinemarchitecture will apply for funds for future years that will enable the workshop to rotate to the other schools in the partnership. The workshop comprehends a theoretical component based on lectures that will promote debate on the subject and a practical or experimental component to stimulate creativity and seek for innovative reflections. The workshop will be conducted in English and will involve design, film/video making and editing, cinema studies, film analysis and criticism all with an architecture focus.
