Our survey of the world’s 100 top architects, featuring an interview with Norman Foster, is now available to view online as a digital edition

Gensler has claimed top spot in BD’s 2008 World Architecture 100 survey, with 1,216 qualified architects.
The US-based practice is followed closely by HOK, but Japan’s Nikken Sekkei, last year’s largest firm, fell to third place, despite increasing staff numbers to 1,174. Aedas took fourth place and Foster & Partners fifth.
Foster & Partners has boosted its number of qualified architects by a massive 35% in the past 12 months, with 913 now working for the firm, a revelation that comes at the end of a momentous year for the practice.

In an exclusive interview with BD World Architecture, Norman Foster underlined his aim that the practice would get bigger still. “My ambition is for a company that is self-sustaining and goes beyond my participation… Instead of winding down, we’re gearing up,” he said.
Other British firms in the top 10 are BDP International (7th), RMJM (8th), and Atkins (10th).
Printed copies of the BD World Architecture 100 supplement are available for purchase for £8 by calling Ruby Heera at 020 7560 4148 or by emailing rheera@cmpi.biz
