The curving building will stand on the city square, and will feature a main auditorium, smaller performance space, restaurants, a bar, a bookshop and a gallery. “The Crab team approached the task as a whole-hearted design that would have an individual presence, well aware of the ‘off-performance’ theatre of meeting, eating, perambulating and reviving the centre of the town — as well as making an acoustically and technically advanced instrument,” Cook said. “The directionality, the scale, the materials of the town have been studied and carefully responded to. Subtle pools of daylight are involved in the forming of the public space and diagonal views are encouraged,” he said. The structure will be divided into four main blocks, with an outdoor area providing decks and casual open-air “theatre” terracing, which faces on to the existing Trade Union House, where the gallery space will be housed. The design was led by Cook and Robotham, working with Madrid partner Salvador Perez Arroyo, Italian architect Bargone Associati and acoustic consultant Garcia-BBM.Fonte: bdonline Quote
