3CPO Posted December 16, 2006 Report Posted December 16, 2006 HP Designjet printer error when printing from AutoCAD® Published date: 2006-01-03 ID: TS1052643 Applies to: AutoCAD® 2006 AutoCAD® 2005Issue When you tried to plot from AutoCAD® 2005 or 2006, you received the following error message: Printer driver for HP DesignJet printers in Windows NT Printer driver HP DesignJet printers in Windows NT has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.Solution This issue occurs because of the PCL3GUI Framework that was used for the PCL3GUI Drivers (v.6.03). With this driver, the size of the character array used to store the path of a job was not based on the length of the path name. Therefore, when long path names are received, the driver is not able to store the entire path name and it crashes. To correct this issue, you will need to install a newer version of the driver (higher than v.6.03) that contains a correction or fix. You could also use one of the following work-arounds: * Copy the document you would like to print to a lower directory and/or reduce the number of characters in the file name. * On the AutoCAD 2005/2006 Plot and Publish tab (On the Tools menu, click Options > Plot and Publish tab), under Background processing options, select Enable background plot when Plotting.
