Benoy’s 31 storey mall opens in Hong Kong

Benoy has announced the opening of iSQUARE, a new ‘vertical destination mall’ located in the heart of Tsim Sha Tsui, Hong Kong. In collaboration with Rocco Design Limited, Benoy designed the 56,000 sq m concept to integrate high quality retail with entertainment and extensive dining and lifestyle offers across 31 storeys, whilst introducing direct links to the Tsim Sha Tsui metro concourse on two levels.
Project leader Simon Chua said: “Successful retail projects look carefully into the configuration of shopper circulation. Early in the design process for iSQUARE our designers envisioned a journey through the levels, ensuring every floor would benefit from equally strong pedestrian flows.”
Each zone of the mall demonstrates subtle changes in the use of colour, lighting, materials and patterns. In addition, iSQUARE’s escalators are clad in scrolling LCD displays which deliver the potential of additional advertising revenue streams in the future. Benoy’s design incorporates asymmetrical shifting voids of space between the levels to give the impression of additional depth inside the constrained floor plate. These strategically placed voids, coupled with the glass façade allow the sun to flood the building with light during the day.
Visitors are welcomed to iSQUARE by grand canopied entrances decorated with thousands of LED lights on both Nathan Road and Peking Road. In addition, ‘feature walls’ located beside the mall’s escalators deliver a dynamic canvas for multimedia projections.
