Glenn Howells Architects design the Rotunda in Birmingham

The Rotunda is a Grade II listed structure dating from the early 1960s and is recognised as one of Birmingham’s foremost landmarks. The proposals for the redevelopment of the Rotunda building involved the conversion of the 22-storey office tower into 234 high quality residential apartments to restore its iconic status. This also includes proposals for a double-height entrance and a new skin for the building using differing, textured glass panels to deliver energy efficiency, maximise views and transform the appearance of the building’s simple, powerful, cylindrical form. Work on demolition and structural modifications to the existing structure commenced late 2005 with the completion of the project expected early 2008.
