3CPO
Living Box - Kim Minsung - [46236] Designer – Kim, Minsung. (student) Born in 1982, Seoul, Korea. Year 4 student in Architectural engineering, Korea University THE HIVE – desirable interaction Prologue – prefabricated blocks form community spaces In modern society, most families went through rapid changes like changing into nuclear families. Also the parents are more anxious about their children’s education , and more of them are now working together. In result, kids nowadays have definitely more chance to spend time with their siblings or friends around their age. Many kids learn more from their friends than from their parents, and no matter if it is desirable or not, it becomes huge affection to the kids in their age of forming personality. Kids personality forms in Communities. Kids are the standards to each others and source of what they gets new things. Interaction between neighbor children needs to be supervised with their parents, guardians, or also with the interaction between parents. The Hive makes various forms Of community spaces by combining one unit in different ways. Bent form of initial unit makes it easy for the parents to observe their children in community made of various combination of initial units no matter where their unit locates, no matter where they are in their unit. The hive provides you community spaces in plan, and in elevation. In plan, the central community forms naturally when the units combined in circular shape. And it becomes main community space where the children can play with other children in the same group. Like mentioned earlier, parents can observe their children in any place in the group of units. In elevation, the share-terrace put in between two houses as an empty unit. Two families can have some time together , like having tea or chatting. Existing residence designs were not good at catching up the demands of various scale and characters of spaces required for the children. And it is also hard to expand keeping current system even when there is new family member. This problem shows that we need different kind of residence with prefabrication and expandability. In the hive, one house consists of two identical units, and this makes it possible to have great efficiency of prefabrication. Long hexagonal initial units combines together, and it looks like bee hive in elevation. the inclined planes in the end of each units became passage to each unit. The stairway goes along the inclined plane. This skip floor gives proper disconnection between parents unit and children unit for the privacy. But the bent mass still allows to see each other through window. If there is a need to expand spaces, you can just add one more unit. It is easiest way to expand the current system. If one of the openable holes are not connected to other units, it can be used as a skylight. Materials a unit is basically made with steel frame structure covered with F.R.P which is easy to be mold and mass produced. The simple hexagonal shape makes it possible to produce in each small parts and can be assembled on site. Basically, the parts can be small so, it doesn’t require any special vehicle to move those parts. The elevation is covered with light control glass panel, which makes it possible not to use any curtain or blind. The glass panel is controlled with electronic switch and changes transparency. Summary ONE STRUCTURE UNIT = 47 SQUARE METERS ONE HOUSE CONSISTS OF TWO UNITS = TOTAL 94 SQUARE METERS THE WIDTH OF LIVING SPACE IS APPROX. 4.4 METER EVERY WALLS ARE REMOVABLE – OPEN PLAN. THE WALLS CAN MOVE ALONG THE ARC GUIDELINE IN PLAN. EVERY CURVS IN SAME UNIT PLAN IS ARC THAT SHARES SAME CENTER. STOREY HEIGHT IS 3.3 METER CLEAR HEIGHT IS 2.6 METER 8 CONNECTING HOLES IN A UNIT CAN BE OPENED AND CONNECTED TO OTHER UNITS (TERRACE OR CHILD UNIT). OR IT CAN BE USED AS SKYLIGHT. HEXAGONAL STRUCTURE IS SUPPORTED BY STEEL BEAMS IN THE END AND COREWALLS. AND IT IS ALSO STRUCTURALLY SUPPORTING AS SPACE TRUSS. THE DESIGN CONCEPT IS FROM BEE HIVE. THE CONBINATION OF EACH UNIT IS UNLIMITED. IT CAN BE COMBINED IN S SHAPE, O SHAPE, X SHAPE OR ELSE IN 3D SPACE, NOT ONLY IN 2D PLAN. IT IS DESIGNED TO BE ABLE TO COMBINED EITHER WAY. THE CONNECTING PART IS COMPATIBLE IN EITHER WAY. (THE SLAB IS ARC SHAPE BUT THE CONNECTING PART IS RECTANGULAR SHAPE, SO THAT IT CAN CONNECT IN EITHER WAY) STAIRWAYS TO UPPER UNITS LIES ALONG THE INCLINED PLANES OF HEXAGONAL UNITS.
